Analysis of hearing outcome following canal wall up and canal wall down mastoidectomy in squamosal type of chronic suppurative otitis media: A comparative study

Background: Chronic suppurative otitis media (CSOM) is a major health issue in developing countries causing persistent problem and may lead to life-threatening complications. This its complications can be best avoided by early effective treatment. Aims Objectives: The aim compare the outcome terms of hearing improvement following canal wall up down mastoid surgery. Materials Methods: prospective study was conducted Otorhinolaryngology Department Burdwan Medical College Hospital, Burdwan, tertiary care hospital from April 2019 August 2020 50 clinically diagnosed cases COM (Squamous type) were included this after through history taking meticulous clinical examination. Patients divided two Groups (Group-A Group-B) with 25 patients each group randomly Group-A undergone mastoidectomy Group-B (CWDM). Now, before performing surgery, pre-operative pure tone audiometry performed for follow-up done again, 2-month post-operative period. These results compared assess degree different operative procedures, namely, CWDM. Results: In Group-A, mean gain (mean±SD) 12.5700±0.9856. Group-B, 8.4200±5.0051. Difference both groups statistically significant (P=0.0002). Chi-square value: 0.1678; P=0.9195. Conclusion: Hearing more CWDM CSOM which significant.
